White sapote, scientifically known as Casimiroa edulis, is a species of fruit-bearing tree native to eastern Mexico and Central America. It belongs to the Rutaceae family and is closely related to citrus trees. The white sapote tree typically grows up to 25 feet tall and has large, glossy green leaves.

The fruit of the white sapote is oval-shaped, with thin, smooth skin that turns from green to yellow as it ripens. The flesh is creamy white, hence the name “white” sapote, and has a sweet, custard-like texture with a flavor reminiscent of pear or peach. White sapotes are typically eaten fresh or used in desserts, smoothies, and jams.

White sapote trees require warm, frost-free climates to thrive and prefer well-drained soil with regular watering. They are sensitive to cold temperatures and may require protection during cooler weather. While they can be grown from seeds, grafted varieties are preferred for more consistent fruit quality.

White sapote fruit is rich in vitamins A and C, as well as potassium and dietary fiber, making it a nutritious addition to a balanced diet. However, the tree is not widely cultivated outside of its native range and is primarily grown in home gardens and orchards in regions with suitable climates.
